What is Jibcut all about?
This question is tentatively set to be answered in three days. while you're waiting, listen to this---------------------------
How can I get a Jibcut release?
Here's how it works. We offer two formats: mp3 archive and CD-R. Choose the format that suits you and click the "buy now" box beside it. You'll be re-directed to a Paypal page where you'll be asked to go through the steps – which may include registering – in order to pay by credit card or in Paypal dollars. If you've selected mp3 archive, it'll start downloading immediately after payment has been received. We pride ourselves on not being jerks so if you had trouble with the download, drop us a line and we'll get it to you. That's our promise! If you've decided that you want a hard copy, we'll ship it to you within a couple of days.
I don't have a credit card. Is there a way for me to buy a release?
Yes. We know what that's like. Send us a cheque or cash in the mail for the amount appropriate to the format you're requesting (see the prices on the particular release's page). Include your address or your email address or both, and you'll be hearing from us. It's that simple!
Which is better: mp3 or CD-R?
There are pros and cons to both. At a lower price, the mp3 archives are a steal. We don't skimp on the audio quality (224 - 320kbps), and you'll get it a little faster. On the other hand, with the CD-Rs, though you pay a few extra dollars, you'll be getting a verifiable object if that's imprtant to you. You won't miss out on any of the additional content that we sometimes like to include and you'll have the advantage of hearing the releases uninterrupted by track separations that can interfere with your listening experience. These days, itunes is pretty good for that though.
Why are Jibcut prices so high / low?
The prices are as low as they are because our releases are usually around 15 minutes long (though some are almost double that and some are 8 or more times that). They are intended as audio treats and probably have an expiry date. We're realistic. But it's fun to get new musical surprises and we'd like to make it affordable for you to treat yourself on a regular basis. They are as expensive as they are because we'd like to break even in our little enterprise. Originally, we were going to do just downloads and no cds. We decided we would offer cd copies for those who want them, but we can't really do them cheaper. It is nice to have that package though. Prices include shipping and paypal costs.
Why are Jibcut releases so short / long?
They're not. They're exactly the length that they are. Check and see. The nice thing is, if they're short, you'll be able to listen to them again, noticing what you missed the first time. And long ones... once may be enough. you'll have to play it by ear.
I didn't receive the mp3 album I ordered. Are you guys going to be jerks?
No. We're going to be friendly and make sure you get it. We're not a business. We're hobbyists, mostly. That's why we may often embed glitches into the process - so that you don't think we're for real. Of course we're not going to be jerks!
I have a friend that has a band. Could Jibcut release her album?
Maybe. We'd sure like to hear anything you have. Especially stuff you made when you were young and innocent. For a start, send your mp3s (10 meg or fewer per) to our gmail account – jibcut@gmail.com. We might contact you about releasing some of your music or to ask you to contribute to another project. Don't be shy about it and don't hasten to leave out your worst / best shit.
Is Jibcut just about music or is there more to it than that?
Astute question. Right now it's music, but if you've got drawings or spreadsheet art, we're interested.
